In this series of posts, I’ll show you how to make your German-speaking colleagues laugh, with ONE simple sentence.

(Two flies with one flap beat)

Imagine some annoying flies flying around you (um dich herum).

Then suddenly, you see 2 of them making a stop in front of your table (vor deinem Tisch).

You pick a flap and boom…

You beat 2 flies with one flap (mit einer Klappe).

This feels like killing 2 birds with one stone :-)

So when we say in German:

We mean:

So here’s your action step:

Imagine (Stell dir vor) your German-speaking colleague Wolfgang comes to you and he goes:

“We have a meeting at 10 with our boss (mit unserem Chef).

And I saw on our calendar that our new client scheduled also a call with us at 10 (mit uns um 10).

What should we do?

We have to cancel one appointment (einen Termin).”

Look at Wolfgang calmly.

Then say to him:

Nein warte. Ich habe eine Idee. Wir können zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe schlagen. (Wait. I have an idea. We can kill two birds with one stone.)
