Auf den Keks gehen
(To go on the cookie)
der Keks is the cookie, yes, you know, the ones that the cookie monster liked so much (die, die das “Krümelmonster” so sehr mochte) …
But, “Auf den Keks gehen” does not not really mean that you’re going ON the cookie (dass du auf dem Keks gehst).
It means:
- to get on someone’s nerves
- to get on someone’s wick
Got it?!
So here’s your action step:
Imagine your know-it-all (Besserwisser) German-speaking colleague Siegfried comes to you bragging about how smart he is (angebend wie schlau er ist) …
He’s REALLY getting on your nerves.
So tell him:
- Du gehst mir voll auf den Keks! (You’re really getting on my nerves!)
