The 15-minute habit behind 60+ languages

When people ask me about the fastest way to learn German, they expect me to talk about methods.

Or techniques. Or tools.

But the truth is much simpler.

Progress doesn’t come from what you use.

It comes from what you do, consistently.

You can have the best course, the best app, the best materials…

But if you don’t build a daily habit, none of it really matters.

Language learning is a long-term project.

And everything starts with one thing:

A routine you actually stick to.

A different kind of polyglot

Last year, I introduced you to Prof. Argüelles and his two core learning techniques.

If you remember, he’s not just any language learner.

He’s a highly renowned linguist and one of the most respected polyglots in the world, described by The New Yorker as “a legendary figure in the polyglot community.”

He is highly proficient in 10 languages: English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Catalan, Swedish and Korean, and knows in total more than 60 languages.

But what makes him truly fascinating is how he got there.

  • Not through traditional language courses.
  • Not through language partners.

But through a highly disciplined, self-taught approach.

Now, here’s what’s interesting.

When you look at someone like him, it’s easy to assume:

“He must study for hours every day.”

“That must require a huge time investment.”

“That’s not realistic for me.”

But in one of his videos, he shares something very different.

simple principle that most learners tend to overlook:

The 15-minute principle.

Here’s the core idea:

You don’t need hours to get started and you can do it all by yourself.

You need something small enough that you actually do it every day.

When a task feels overwhelming, it’s very easy to do nothing.

But 15 minutes?

That feels doable.

And once you start, something interesting happens:

Momentum builds.

Here’s what you’ll take away from his video:

  • Why starting small is more effective than aiming for long study sessions
  • How 15 minutes helps you build a real habit, not just motivation
  • Why consistency beats intensity in the early stages
  • How small daily efforts compound into massive progress over time
  • And why language learning feels overwhelming, and how to fix that

You can watch the video here.

If you want to see this principle in action, here’s another video where Prof. Argüelles demonstrates what a 15-minute routine can actually look like step by step, watch here.

Talk to you soon. Bis bald.

Manuel
