Today, let’s go through some “irregular verbs”, so verbs that change their stem vowel in other tenses. Like in English speak – spoke – spoken

  • beginnen (start)

Ich beginne heute mit der Arbeit. (I begin today with the work.)

Gestern begann ich mit der Arbeit. (I began yesterday with the work.)

Gestern habe ich mit der Arbeit begonnen. (I’ve begun yesterday with the work.)

  • bitten (ask)

Ich bitte dich um Hilfe. (I ask you for help.)

Gestern bat ich dich um Hilfe. (Yesterday I asked you for help.)

Gestern habe ich dich um Hilfe gebeten. (Yesterday I’ve asked you for help.)

  • empfehlen (recommend)

Ich empfehle dir dieses Buch. (I recommend you this book.)

Gestern empfahl ich dir dieses Buch. (I recommended you yesterday this book.)

Gestern habe ich dir dieses Buch empfolen. (I’ve recommend you yesterday this book.)

  • erwägen (consider)

Wir erwägen eine andere Alternative. (We consider another alternative.)

Gestern erwogen wir eine andere Alternative. (We considered yesterday another alternative.)

Gestern haben wir eine andere Alternative erwogen. (We’ve considered another alternative yesterday.)

  • gelingen (succeed)

Dieses Projekt gelingt uns. (We succeed with this project.)

Gestern gelang uns dieses Projekt. (We succeeded with this project yesterday.)

Gestern ist uns dieses Projekt gelungen. (We’ve succeeded with this project yesterday.)
