#2 Engineers around Germany with Nick from Australia

This is “Engineers around Germany”, the podcast show where I interview inspiring engineers, who are working in a German speaking country telling us their story and experience with their German project.

I’m thrilled to introduce my guest tonight, Nick.
Nick is an electrical engineer from Australia. He worked in Australia as a project engineer and in 2013 he decided to move to Switzerland. Today he’s working at ABB, an electrical engineering company that produces large scale electrical installations.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How to apply for ABB, one of the leading engineering companies, with zero German and coming from abroad
  • Why corporate language courses do not really fit your working schedule
  • Why starting with German as soon as possible can be a great advantage
  • The different type of visas you can get in Switzerland
  • What problems you can have with your visa when moving from one city to another
  • How frustrating the bureaucracy in Switzerland can be
  • How hard it can be to get a citizenship in Switzerland even if you’re a professor and live in Switzerland for 15 years

  • Understand once and for all when and how to use the adjective endings

The German adjective declension is weird? Imagine knowing exactly when to say “groß, große, großen, großem, or großer “. To completely understanding these endings after just one lesson. Without scrolling through weird grammar books. Without memorizing tons of tables.
